Fiery* X2e, 'Alert Set Plain Type' is displayed on the control panel when attempting to print an internal test page from the controller.
Solution
CAUSE: The setting for the paper kind is set to 'PPC paper' for the upper tray.
SOLUTION: Change the paper kind to 'CF paper' for the upper tray. To select 'CF Paper', perform the following.
1. With the machine in an idle state, press the Utility button on the operation panel.
2. Select 'meter count' on the LCD screen.
3. Press the Stop button on the operation panel.
4. Press 00 on the operation panel.
5. Press the Stop button on the operation panel.
6. Press 01 on the operation panel. This accesses the service mode.
7. Select 'setting' on the LCD screen.
8. Select 'paper kind' on the LCD screen.
9. Ensure the upper tray is set for CF paper.
10. The middle, lower, and LCT can be set as well, if necessary.
11. Exit the mode by selecting 'Ex.' on the LCD screen. Ensure that an internal test page can be printed.

CAUSE: X2e is connected via the parallel port yet the parallel port is disabled.
SOLUTION: Set Enable Parallel Port: Yes under the Fiery X2e NetWork Setup. Verify setting by printing the configuration sheet.
To avoid the "Offending Command" message which may appear after correcting the parallel port setting, adjusting the timeout settings in the driver:
1. Click on START, select SETTINGS and then PRINTERS.
2. Right mouse click on the icon for the printer driver and then select PROPERTIES.
3. Click on the DETAILS tab on the Properties window.
4. Change NOT SELECTED to 60 and TRANSMISSION RETRY to 120.
5. Click on the SPOOL SETTINGS button and select DISABLE BI-DIRECTIONAL SUPPORT FOR THIS PRINTER if it is not greyed out.
6. Click OK twice.
